The site is located in the corner of the cross roads of Hongik Universitv near Yangwha highway ln spite of the requirement of commercial value and cultural individuality as a central place near here, the neighboring buildings stand immovably with the repture of city. It was a goa of the design to realize a landmark building that contains culture, and to converse the cultural result into commercial value by vitalizing the city with the cultural work of architecture in the site. It became a premise of design that the terms desired according to the occupancy of 'Ponderosa' restaurant on the second floor where I have worked on the interior design later days. The first floor for parking only is a pilotis. The using requirement of areal expansion to existing building became the relation to link the new/old building in the form of bridge. And it made the new building to select the arrangement which lay on a big front garden in the form of 'ㄷ' which is located near the main road side. Moreover, it became an arrangement that consider the extension of the building later on. The commercial facilities are established which require high efficiency from the basement to third floor. The program to use the floors above forth floor as office has set. The section planning according to the use is designed with the architectural solution for the requirement of the absorption of neighboring residents. advertisement, publicity and so on to maximize the efficiency of commercia| facilities on lower part. It is a keynote of the formative expression and spatial story of the project.
The pilotis of first floor operate the eye-level landscape at this corner as a primary element to express various change/openness visually and spatially. In the pilotis, a square with an architectural object for the expression of artistic establishment and landscape element is formed and it arose the visual/spatial curiousity, the easiness of proximity and used as a device to attract the pedestrian on the three-side roads.
They induced from the corner of the road to sunken garden on the first floor and through the shopping mall, this traffic line connects to another sunken garden which runs through the courtyard. An effect to increase the purchasing efficiency of the commercial facilities on the lower part including first floor is expected accompanyingly by gathering many people of every direction by pass front/rear road through courtyard.
The moving traffic lines such as outside curved-shape stair from the first floor to third floor of the corner of the road, nude elevator, bridge, shopping mall, sunken garden are an intermediate space of outside space and inside space, as well as, a string which connect the city and architecture, architecture and human.
The lower pan that contains elements of action, such as people in the nude elevator and itself moving up and down exposedly in the transparent glass, outside stairs of the every floor which are freezed a form of moving and the people who express themselves by the movement in the stair, various vertical architectural work, is a drama that present a festive atmosphere. This is a friendly proposal of architecture towards the city and hope to be fused together with the city.
The change of the movement and variety would stimulate as a vigor around there and will achieve the aim to increase the commercial efficiency with the visual/psychological mutual response with the outside of architecture and arousal of interest. Moreover, it satisfies the cultural requirement to gather people. The fact, that the site contains the character of history and place which might be a Mapo ferry in the past, became a formative aim corresponds to a dynamics at the corner of the road which has formative attribute. It symbolize a moving sail which holds wind and it is a curved three-side wing which freezed the movement of formative main language on the upper part.
This is supported by a vertical element on the lower-part and take the historical tracing and moving with the people who enjoy the festival.
